How to style a throw — five looks

A throw is the cheapest piece of styling in the room and the one most people get wrong — either folded into a stiff rectangle or abandoned in a heap. These five drapes cover every sofa and bed; each takes under a minute.

1 · The one-corner cascade

Fold the throw in half lengthwise, lay it over one back corner of the sofa and let it spill onto the seat. One-third of the sofa covered, two-thirds clean. The most forgiving drape — start here.

2 · The armrest fold

A neat three-fold over the armrest, ends hanging unevenly (even = showroom, uneven = home). Pairs best with two textured cushions on the opposite corner to balance the sofa diagonally.

3 · The bed runner

Across the lower third of the bed, edges hanging equally on both sides. On a queen bed a standard 50×60 in throw works; a wider bed wants a true runner (SOISU’s tufted throws at 94×34 in are cut for exactly this).

4 · The tucked seat wrap

Wrap one full seat cushion and tuck the ends under — a deliberate colour-block. Best on plain sofas with a boldly textured throw: channel tufting, bouclé, chunky knit.

5 · The reading-chair puddle

Over the back of an armchair, one end puddling on the seat. Signals “someone reads here” — the coziest look in the list and the right home for your softest fleece or faux-fur piece.

Colour, in one rule

The throw should bridge the sofa and the cushions: pick a colour that appears in your cushion mix but not in the sofa itself. Grey sofa + ivory/rust cushions → an ivory or rust throw, never grey-on-grey.
